Summary: 5 Reasons Why Blogging is the New Internet Marketing Tool

Blogging is a concept that started in late 90s. It used to be a way to comment an existing webpage, an opportunity for visitors and readers to react or voice out one’s opinion on the said page. What started as a single-sentence commentary has evolved into pages of personal take on just about anything and everything under the sun. As it continues to move forward, online advertising has tapped into the blog’s potential. Here are 5 reasons why you should use blogging as an Internet marketing tool.

1.Blogging is simple. The simplest way to get your piece on the net is through blogging. No skills are necessary… an average adult can read and type, or at least click a mouse. It’s like having a virtual piece of paper and you just write your ideas, experiences, new products, and hope that the truth behind your articles comes out and entice your reader to also try your product. If you have a PC and an Internet connection (who doesn’t?) then you can blog and advertise.

2. Blogging is authentic. In this day and age where advertising saturate our lives, we question the credibility of promoters’ claims. However, in blogs, real people share their real-life experiences, unscathed by paid advertising. Reading blogs about first-hand product use is like talking to people about their first-hand experience. You definitely want to buy a tried and tested product.

3. Blogging is free. Because blogging is yet to be proven as a mainstream online advertising media, most sites see it as something to augment current marketing tools and thus offer it for free. Any opportunity for free webtime is definitely a bonus especially to businesses that are starting up. Needless to say, paid blog pages can generate more income for your seriously growing business.

4. Blogging builds credibility. As you get more and more into writing your experiences on a particular product or industry, your readers come to realize that they can depend on your posts for their own information needs. As such, you become an expert on it; as a consequence, more readers visit your site and more bloggers link to your blogs. As companies and professional organizations notice the growth of your readership base, they may soon get in touch with you for advertising on your blog page, or make you an affiliate, which pays for every referral generated from your blog site.

5. Blogging builds your market. Unless you are a Hollywood star, chances are, only your Mom reads your posts. Mom has a lot of friends, so she lets her friends know how interesting your blog site is. But you need not depend on Mom to increase your readership base. Look into the following ways to build your market through blogging:

Knowledge can give you a real advantage. To make sure you're fully informed about Blogging, keep reading.

-By using your e-mail. Today, blogging is overcoming the e-mail’s popularity in quickly and effectively reaching and expanding a market. In this age of speed and quick access, logging in and downloading e-mail is simply taking longer than clicking into a blog site. Let them explore your site by using a short e-mail message as teaser to your blog site. If your e-mail is on an entirely different subject, use your e-mail signature to give a link to the site.

-By using subscription. An easy way to get your readers e-mail is to give them an opportunity to subscribe to your blogsite. Keep some exclusive information for your subscribers to entice readers to subscribe and give their e-mail address. Just be responsible in using their e-mail address, as the last thing you want is a comment on your blog that you are a spammer.

-By understanding your readers. Conduct a simple survey for your readers to understand their profile and advertising preferences. Ask consumers to give you feedback on a post, an ad link, or a trial that you shared. In this way, it is like interviewing your readers without the commitment and intrusion of a face-to-face interview.

-By joining a blog network –A network of blogs maybe a collection of blog sites that share the same industry, interest, readership base, payment mode, etc. Consumers find credibility and convenience in clicking one link to several real bloggers about a single subject. Clearly, more bloggers are better than one.

-By using RSS. RSS is the fastest growing technology on the Internet today. As such, having RSS feeds to your blog is definitely another means of generating awareness for your readership base. Having a variety of feeds can add interest to your blog site.

Give your business a boost by effectively using blogging as an Internet marketing tool.

When word gets around about your command of Blogging facts, others who need to know about Blogging will start to actively seek you out.

What is Twitter Anyways?

Have you been wondering “What is this Twitter? Why are people twittering? Is twittering even a word?”

Have you heard the words Tweet us at on the news or TV? Are you worried that if you ask someone to describe twittering or tweeting that you will be labeled as a social misfit or uncool? I have also made that assumption. The assumption that just because someone is young and into twittering or understand social media that I would be greeted with laughter or at best a blank stare. This is a bad assumption and once I stepped over that fear of being laughed at, I actually got answers. And I want to share my discovery with you.

I bet you are thinking yeah, yeah so what is Twitter, Twittering, Tweeting and all that jazz? Why do news agencies use it and why do I see in on T.V.?

Twitter is a website that offers something called micro-blogging. Micro-blogging (yeah, another word to learn) like blogging, it allows people to text little updates and put them immediately online, so that anyone can see them or by only people in special social groups.

Tweets (the little text messages) can be submitted to Twitter with a variety ways and devices from instant messaging, email, cell phones or the web. Tweets are direct text messages sent "at" a person by using the “@” symbol before their username. This Tweet will not only communicate with that single person but also show partial conversations with other members of the group. Then, once you have an account with Twitter and someone follows you, people can direct message one another or "DM" through the Twitter websites interface.

Twitters can friend or "follow" other Tweeple (people plus Tweeter) to receive Twits, Tweets or Twitters (it is a personal preference what you call it). Adding or "following" a person is similar to adding a friend on a social network like Facebook.

Next question...why? Tweeting on Twitter attracts people with similar likes and dislikes. It is all about letting people know what you are up to and expressing yourself in 140 characters or less. It’s an immediate mini form of self expression. Tweets range from single commentary on subjects near and dear to the heart in little bursts and rants to just describing mundane activities at any exact moment from waking up and drinking a latte to news worthy events or even deciding what shoes to wear.

Some Tweets pin point and use Twitter for monetary gain. They post links to websites and blogs. Twitter allows a business person to draw attention to blog entries, sale coupons, happenings and events. Twitter allows a business person to target people with similar backgrounds and buying habits.

There are many uses for Twitter just to name a few, you can ask for advice, heighten aware in a cause, offer help and resources to others, promote products and/or services and even promote breaking news. So, that is why you are hearing Twitter everywhere, with so many uses and the fact it allow self expression in immediate bursts...how could it be any other way! Now, will you be Tweeting soon?

Getting Twitter Followers with Quality

There are different ways to get Twitter followers.  You can follow everyone and their house pets yourself, hoping that enough of them will reciprocate to boost your follower total through the stratosphere.

You can make a concerted effort to promote your Twitter URL at every turn, hoping to find new followers from the population that visits your website or blog.

There’s another way to do it.  The third route, by the way, is the one that works the best.

If you Tweet quality, you’ll get followers.  Good followers.  The kind who want to listen to what you say and who are willing to follow your advice.

When you’re Tweeting the “good stuff”, people notice.  They re-Tweet you.  They recommend you.  They respond to you.  And every time one those things happens, more people become aware of you and the fact that you’re doing something special on Twitter.

Want to get a nice big collection of rabid followers who can actually produce results?  Start bringing your “A” game to the Twittersphere.  When your dropping great Tweets, people will find you.  There’s a magnetic thing about quality that makes it happen.  Every time.

The Power of Focus in 25 tweets

By Liliana E. González

@LilianaElena

This is a wonderful book by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen and Les Hewitt. It is pack with great lessons and wisdom. To honor the book and their authors I have created 25 tweets (#edutweets) taken directly from the book:

Your habits will determine your future.

Successful people have successful habits.

You can turn negative consecuences into positive rewards, simply by changing your habits now.

After twenty one to thirty experiences with a new habit, it´s harder not to do it than to do it.

When you constantly strive to improve, you build character.

You must invest most of your time every week doing what you do best, and let others do what they do best.

Focus in your priorities. Use the 4-D formula: Dump it, Delegate it, Defer it or Do it.

Consciously stop yourself when you start doing things that are not in your best interest.

A goal is the ongoing pursuit of a worthy objective until accomplished.

Actions speak louder than words.

Creating a successful future takes energy, effort and concentrate thinking.

Remember, if you want a different result, do something different.

Another feature of a well-balanced day is taking time to expand your knowledge.

Learning from a professional will accelerate your progress.

To maximize your progress take regular breaks to re-energize.

Awareness is always the first step to progress.

Changing your behavior is the only way you will get a different result.

Brilliant people do brilliant work. They do it on time & consistently. They make you feel good in the process & charge a fair price.

When you continually clean up your unfinished business, life becomes simple and uncluttered.

You will never achieve big results in your life without consistent and persistent action.

Everything in life is a choice. Absolutely everything.

Choosing to say "No" is often the best strategy to keep your life well-balanced and in control.

When you consistently do what you say you will do, the names attached to you are reliable and trustworthy.

Keep going - success is often just around the corner. For those who won´t quit.

Life is short, focus from this day forward on making a difference.

7 Ways to Use PLR (Private Label Rights) Products

By Liliana E. González

@LilianaElena

Private label rights will allow you to buy a product from someone along with all of the rights that go with it such as the source file (word document), sales page, graphics etc. This will give you the right to make as many changes as you want to on the product.

Private label rights means that you are given the editable rights to add, remove or change the product anyway that you decide to.

Some of the changes that you can make are:

1. The title or name of the product.

2. Add your own name to the product as the author.

3. Change the E-cover on the product if it is an eBook.

4. Put your own affiliate links throughout the product wherever you want them.

5. Change, add or remove any of the content on the product.

6. Change the sales letter so that it sounds better to you.

7. Change the price of the product.

You can sell these products and keep 100 percent of the profits. You have control over the product. Having more control over a product can mean that you can make that product more unique than it was before.

One other thing that you want to remember is that with the private label rights you will be able to add credibility to your name. This means that when you have your own product people will be more likely to believe that you know what you are talking about. This is not always true but it can be and it can mean more profits for you.

With private label rights for digital information products you will be able to have your own product without having to go through the hassle of creating that product. This will save you a lot of time and a lot of effort. That way you can concentrate on selling your new private label rights product. These products are definitely worth buying. You just want to make sure that you find a product that your customers are hungry for. The more they want it will mean the more money that you can make from it. So take the time needed to find that perfect product that your customers will gladly hand over their money for.

Aren´t You Blogging Yet? (Begginer´s Guide)

By Liliana E. González

@LilianaElena

Blogging is popular all over the world. There are no rules when it comes to blogging. Bloggers have the freedom to express themselves in any way they want. A blog is basically an online journal wherein you can digitally pen down your thoughts, ideas, opinions and practically anything that you want people to read. Blogs come in different styles, formats, and settings, depending on the preference of the user. Many blogging sites, offer built in features such as hyperlink, straight texts, pictures etc. Some blogging sites, even allow you to put video and mp3's on your blogs.

Basically a blog contains these features:

body- this is the content of your post
trackback- other sites can be linked back to your blog
permanent link- every article that you write has a URL
comments- this allow readers to post comments on your blog.

One of the advantages of blogging, is that it is made of only a few templates. Unlike, other websites that is made up of numerous individual pages. This make it easier for blog users to create new pages, because it already has a fix setting that include: slots for title, body of the post, category, etc.

This is especially useful for first time users, since they can start blogging right away. They can chose from a number of templates that blogging websites provide.

Anyone who wants to start a blog can do so by becoming a member of a blogging website like Blogger.com or Wordpress.com which are free by the way.

There are a lot of blogs that follow a theme such as: sports, politics, philosophy, social commentary, etc. These blogs espouse on their specific themes. This way blogging becomes a medium in which people can share their knowledge and opinions about a variety of themes and topics.

Some bloggers even use their blogs as a means to advertise. Some authors advertise their books on their blogs. While other bloggers, use their blogs to shed light to currents issues, events, news and catastrophes.

Nowadays in education, blogs also play an important part. Professors use blogging to document the lessons that they have discussed and taught.

A lot of entrepreneurs benefit from blogging by promoting their businesses on their blogs, with millions and millions of people logging onto the net everyday, blogging has become a lucrative move. Some bloggers who run online businesses promote their merchandise online. While others profit through advertisement.

But by far, the most popular blog type is the one that takes the form of a personal journal. This is the kind that is usually used by first time bloggers. Individuals who want to document the daily struggle of their everyday lives, poems, rants, opinions, find that blogging offers them a medium in which to express themselves.

Blogs varying in topics, themes, and set-ups, can be found in blog directories. First time users who want to get an idea of what the blogging world is all about can browse through a number of blogs using these directories. This way they'd get an idea of what these blogging communities are like.

5 Steps To A Successful Internet Business

By Liliana E. González

@LilianaElena

1. Find something you feel is a good business opportunity. With a traditional business you must deal with inventory, storage, packing, shipping, complaints, returns, phone calls, emails, checks and credit cards just to name a few! Affiliate programs are THE ABSOLUTE BEST business opportunities out there because the ONLY thing you need to do to run your internet business is to market your affiliate link. Once someone has clicked on your affiliate link your only job is getting the next person to click on it.

2. Get your own webpage. A webpage is like a store front. It projects respect to your business and who you are. Think about it. Do you feel the same about buying from a vendor on the street as you do about buying from a person in a store? They’re both vendors, but the store gives you a certain feeling about the person you are buying from that a street vendor just can’t give you! Your webpage dose not have to be fancy. If you only have a brief description of what your webpage is about along with individual descriptions of your product or products people will respect that. If it is affiliate programs you have decided upon, simply put a BRIEF description of what is being offered along with your affiliate link. Do not disclose too much in your description because people might THINK they know what it is all about and not click on your link. You want to let your affiliate website do all the selling for you. These sites are professionally designed to maximize the number of people who buy or join so a brief description, just enough to spike their curiosity, is sufficient.

3. Get your own Blog and make a post as often as you can. A Blog, is a great way to establish yourself as an authority figure on whatever subject you decide. As people return to read your articles, they will eventually come to view you as an authority on whatever your Blog is about. They will eventually develop confidence in what you are saying, and will begin to trust you. As a result some people will check out your webpage to see what you have to offer them, and people tend to buy more from people they know and trust. Their confidence in you will be an additional factor that will compel people to buy from you.

4. Put Cost-Per-Click(CPC) advertising such as Google AdSense on your website. Having Cost-Per-Click advertising on your website is a way to earn additional income that can be VERY substantial. Most people who visit your website will not buy from you. If people are going to leave your website, wouldn’t you rather them leave through a link on your website that will pay you money every time someone clicks on it? Google makes putting their AdSense on your website E-A-S-Y! The ads are relevant to the content of your website. Google can even put its AdSense on your Blog as we’ll.

5. Write and submit articles to article submission sites. This is the most important advice you need to know. This is how you will get FREE advertising! People are searching the internet for free information. When you submit your articles online, the search engines will eventually find them and will spider every word. When people do a search using keywords or phrases that are in your articles, they will turn up in the search results, so be sure to insert highly searched for keywords and phrases into your articles! You will need to include at the bottom of all your articles your bio. Your bio will contain a brief description about who you are along with a link to your website. The more articles you write and submit, the higher the chances are of your articles keywords and phrases showing up on search results. The more links you have pointing back to your website, the higher your websites page rank with the search engines will be, meaning the higher up on the search results will your article turn up, so don’t stop writing and submitting articles!

Having a successful internet business is simply a matter of understanding how things work, and applying that knowledge. It dose not take any special skill or any great intelligence. If you follow these five steps, you cannot fail. The most important thing, as with anything in life, is PERSISTENCE.

Blogs vs. Websites: What’s The Big Difference?

Online journals, better known as blogs, are becoming more and more popular. When the Internet was first getting started, users rushed to build personal web sites. Web sites are still very popular among web users, but many are now turning to blogs. What’s the difference? This article will examine the main similarities and differences between a Weblog and a website.

While blogs and website are intended to be different, there are a couple of similarities in blogs and sites. Mainly, they are both found on the Internet using a URL or a web address. Both also must have some sort of host to keep the information online. Another similarity of the two is that they both can be maintained by virtually anyone from individuals to companies. Both Weblog and websites can also contain information, pictures, link and keywords, as well. These two types of sites will target readers.

With a blog, information that is entered on the site is generally updated very frequently depending on the writer. Sometimes blog writers even update several times a day. Usually with a website, information is not updated regularly. Websites generally contain information about something that does not change often. When a website is updated, usually the entire page is altered. With a blog, just one entry at a time is updated. After a website has been changed, that information is gone and cannot be seen again by the reader. On a blog, new entries are added, but the old ones are not deleted from the site. Instead, they are stamped with the date and time that they were created, given a title and indexed on that blog page. It makes it easy for a blog reader to go to a certain blog page and read past entries without having to search.

Another main difference between a blog and a website is that a website is generally a little harder to maintain and oftentimes requires a solid understanding of the way the Internet works. With a blog, almost anyone can easily and quickly update a blog. It does not require any special working knowledge of the Internet. In addition, there are many sites that offer blog features and most of the time these can be used for free.

Blogs also encourage people to communicate with each other much more so than with a website. A websites primary function is to provide some sort of information to a reader. While there may be a place to leave a comment or an email address for writing that is not why that site was created. Blogs are used for communication. Writers may choose to make their site private, but most choose to publish their blogs making them public to any one who wishes to read. Most blog hosting sites offer options to add to the site so readers and the writer can leave comments to each other on the site. In addition, there are entire web communities built just for blogs. Blogs encourage those who have similar thoughts, interests or even businesses to share their blog site so readers can find them easily. Blogs offer guest tracking, keyword tracking, hit counters, comment areas, and even tag boards for both the reader and the writer to use.

Blogging is extremely popular right now. As more people begin sharing their thoughts with others, there are more blogs created each day. Blogging gives writers, journalists, professionals, moms, dads and even teenagers an instant way to publish their thoughts on a regular basis. For those who enjoy writing, blogs give a unique opportunity to practice writing skills and experiment with what others want to read. Businesses use blogs to show off their expertise and knowledge in their fields, whereas websites do not always get this type of message out to the readers.

Blogging and websites do have some similarities. They are both found on the Internet and contain information. However, blogs give a writer the unique opportunity to communicate with their reader and update their entries on a frequent basis. Anyone who tries blogging will love the instant gratification of getting their opinions and thoughts out on the Internet right away and getting instant feedback from readers that visit their site.

Can I Really Build My Own Website?

By Liliana E. González

@LilianaElena

Creating a website is not that complicated, if we compare it to the education of other technical skills. Most people tend to give up and run, as soon as they hear the word “programming” and “technical”. They think it`s a great deal or a big hassle to actually acquire a whole computer “language”. HTML is a computer language, it is a set of "commands" or instructions you give to the computer to display the information in a certain way. It is used to build websites, is actually pretty simple to understand, as long as we have the interest in learning new things.

What is the meaning of HTML?

HTML is the acronym for Hyper Text Markup Language. To keep it simple, just think of it as a language that the computer understands. For example, as humans, we were taught different languages; i.e. HTML as a language, is mostly and specifically used to create a website. The web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, will then decipher and interpret the code or rather, language(HTML), and display it in a way we can understand it, just like in a basic webpage.

Coding.

Coding the HTML language might be a bit tough for some people, so we can actually purchase programmes, such as Macromedia Dreamweaver, or even Expression Web 2 from Microsoft (formerly Frontpage) . These programmes are solely created to help individuals in designing professional webpages or websites.

Furthermore, one could also gain access to online web-builders, website builders that are inbuilt and can be directly controlled from the net. There is one that I use and recommend called Website Tonight.

How does Website Tonight work?

1.- Pick a Design.-Choose from 14 page layouts that put your site in the best light… each page can have a different layout.

2.- Make it Yours.- Fine-tune your color scheme or change the color of any site element to create that perfect look. Choose out images from the photo gallery or upload your own images. Format your content with bullets, numbering, hyperlinks… even input and edit your own HTML. Add videos, music, pre-designed Flash animations, RSS feeds, widgets and much more.

3.- Publish it.- Preview your site with one click to view and navigate before you publish to the Web. Publish your Web site with one click – you’re live on the Web. Optimize for search engines with Google Webmaster Tools.

So, you could start and build one right away, get your Website Tonight right now!

What is a Domain Name?

The term domain name refers to the address of a website. To make it simpler, domain names are essential to websites in the same manner that names are important to people. Can you imagine people being addressed or being called using a series of pin numbers instead of their names? Remembering names is already a problem for most people so you can just imagine how chaotic it would be if people do not have names but just numbers.

This works the same way with websites which are addressed using domain names instead of a series of numbers commonly referred to as IP address. Like most numbers, IP addresses can be hard to remember and they are permanent meaning a new IP address for a new web hosting company.

While an IP address is just a series of hard to remember numbers, a domain name is something that can be given character and can be easily remembered. Try to browse the internet and if you want to know the domain name of the site being viewed, look at the browser bar.

The last word or series of letters after the domain name is the TLD (top level domain) also called extension under which the website address is registered. Examples of most common TLD´s are .com which refers to a commercial domain, .org which refers to a non-profit domain and even cn or fr which stands for China or France and which refers to the country domain. The extension are preceded by a period which is read as dot.

Both the name of the website and the domain extension make up the complete domain name of a site. People who are about to register their domain names should think carefully about the name because domain names are unique and it is what gives the website a unique characteristic.

By registering your domain name, you get the exclusive right to use that domain name but only for a certain number of years depending on the policy of the company where you bought your domain name. When that period expires and you want to continue using the domain name then you can renew your contract.

When choosing your domain name, you can use a maximum of 67 characters made up of letters from A to Z or number from zero to nine or a mixture of both numbers and letters as well the hyphen. The maximum of 67 characters already includes both the sub domain name and the TLD. SO if you want to have an easy-recall website then you better start thinking about a witty domain name, The key is to make your domain name catchy, easy to remember and more or less gives the user an idea of what the website is all about.

However, you can already register a domain name even if you do not have a website. On the other hand, registration of a domain name does not carry with it a website. While some domain registering companies offer web hosting, you can register your domain name with them and choose from the various web hosting companies.

The Shortcut List

Let’s say you wanted to find two thousand people who would share an interest in your upcoming product.

Now, let’s say that you wanted a way to contact them and to send them updates and even a purchase link when you were ready to go.

Time for a squeeze page and an auto responder, right? Not necessarily. There’s nothing wrong with creating a list, but there could be a much more efficient way to get the job done.

Twitter.

You can gather thousands of followers and “Tweet” them the messages of your choice at any time. You don’t need to worry about opt-ins, delivery or staying on the right side of the regulations.

If you’re not using Twitter to create a “shortcut list” that can drive traffic to your offers, you’re missing a great opportunity. This is one of the easiest ways to get started with permission marketing in the history of the Internet and many marketers are already making money by talking to their followers instead of just sending those emails to their list.

Are you on Twitter? Are using it the right way? If you’re not sure, you need to do some investigation.

Advertising Your Website In Your Email Signature

If you have a Web Site that you are particularly proud of, and that you want to share with other people, there are a lot of free ways that you can get your site noticed.

One of those ways is something that you do everyday, and that you may not even consider as a way to share your Web Site. Put the link to your site in your email signature.

Chances are that you send out emails more times that you can count during the day, Each time you send out an email, you can advertise your site by putting the address of your Web Site in your email's signature.

It's always a good idea to write something catchy like, The Best Marketing Tools or Real Estate in Michoacán, depending on what type of site you have.

The thing to remember about putting an advertisement in your signature for your site is to make it short, but eyecatching.

You want people to be interested enough to want to click on it, but you also don't want to scare them off.

Just like it is with any advertisement, you want to give them just enough to be interested and take a closer look at what it is that you are advertising.

Think about what it is that your site is about. What is really going to interest people about it and want to visit? That is what you should include in your signature, and that is what is going to get people to go to your Web Site.

6 Tips In Working Online From Home

To be successful in working online from home, there is more you should do than just have a computer and strong Internet connection. Remember that this setup is unlike the traditional office environment. You need to make certain adjustments in your working style, schedule, and even attitude to ensure productivity. There are certain working online tips that can help you perform well.

1. Have a definite work place. This can be a spare room anywhere in the house or a space in your bedroom. One thing you have to keep in mind is that your work place or home office, as what others like to call it, should allow you to function with little or no distractions. It should be well-lit and -ventilated and spacious enough to accommodate your other office gadgets. Once you have identified your work place, orient your household members about it and request them not to trudge in whenever you are working.

2. Determine your working hours. Though there are online jobs that require you to work during specified hours, some jobs allow you to work anytime of the day. Choose the time when you are most productive and be very disciplined. Just like in a corporate office, you are not supposed to leave your work when you feel like it. Keep in mind that you should maintain a professional attitude even without a prying boss or officemates.

3. Set daily goals. Doing so can help you identify your priorities and allow you to manage your time. Write your goals in a journal and see if they are met at the end of your working day. Without outlining your daily goals, you seem to be shooting aimlessly and might achieve nothing in the end.

4. Get away from online distractions. There are many of them really—social networking sites, video streaming sites, downloading sites, among many other things. Not only can they slow down your computer, they can also take much of your time. Consider this, the full 30 minutes you spend watching a video is possibly the same amount of time you need to type one thousand-plus words. And you don’t want that significant loss, would you? It’s not that you are not allowed to visit any of these sites; it’s just that you have to make good use of your working time and be as productive as you can be. Remember, there’s a proper time for play.

5. Take some breaks. The other extreme tendency in having a work-from-home online job is overworking. This is because work is just within reach and it is easier for you to spend more time doing it than relaxing. Working too much is not the way to do it, as this can potentially burn you out. Rest when you need to. Take your meal on time. Have coffee breaks. Take a day off.

6. Go out regularly. Since your job now only involves you, a computer, and a virtual community, you need to socialize and get connected with people. You can, for instance, have a movie date with your best friend or a slumber party with your former officemates. Never spend a whole week locked in the house; find a way to spend at least a day somewhere.

While these tips can help you function well, much of your success in working online from home still depends on your perseverance, dedication, and patience.

5 Basic Rules of Web Design

1.- Easy to Read.

The most important rule in web design is that your web site should be easy to read. What does this mean? You should choose your text and background colours very carefully. You don't want to use backgrounds that obscure your text or use colours that are hard to read. Dark-coloured text on a light-coloured background is easier to read than light-coloured text on a dark background.

You also don't want to set your text size too small (hard to read) or too large (it will appear to shout at your visitors). All capitalised letters give the appearance of shouting at your visitors.

Keep the alignment of your main text to the left, not centered. Centre-aligned text is best used in headlines. You want your visitors to be comfortable with what they are reading, and most text is left aligned.

2.- Easy to navigate.

All of your hyperlinks should be clear to your visitors. Graphic images, such as buttons or tabs, should be clearly labelled and easy to read. Your web graphic designer should select the colours, backgrounds, textures, and special effects on your web graphics very carefully. It is more important that your navigational buttons and tabs be easy to read and understand than to have "flashy" effects. Link colours in your text should be familiar to your visitor (blue text usually indicates an unvisited link and purple or maroon text usually indicates a visited link), if possible. If you elect not to use the default colours, your text links should be emphasized in some other way (boldfaced, a larger font size, set between small vertical lines, or a combination of these). Text links should be unique - they should not look the same as any other text in your web pages. You do not want people clicking on your headings because they think the headings are links.

Your visitors should be able to find what they are looking for in your site within three clicks. If not, they are very likely to click off your site as quickly as they clicked on.

3.- Easy to find.

How are your visitors finding you online? The myth, "If I build a web site, they will come," is still a commonly held belief among companies and organisations new to the Internet. People will not come to your web site unless you promote your site both online and offline.

Web sites are promoted online via search engines, directories, award sites, banner advertising, electronic magazines (e-zines) and links from other web sites. If you are not familiar with any of these online terms, then it is best that you have your site promoted by an online marketing professional.

Web sites are promoted offline via the conventional advertising methods: print ads, radio, television, brochures, word-of-mouth, etc. Once you have created a web site, all of your company's printed materials including business cards, letterhead, envelopes, invoices, etc. should have your URL printed on them.

Not only should your web site be easy to find, but your contact information should be easy to find. People like to know that there is a person at the other end of a web site who can help them in the event that:

a). They need answers to questions which are not readily available on your web site;

b). Some element on your site is not working and end users need to be able to tell you about it, and

c). Directory editors need you to modify parts of your site to be sure that your site is placed in the most relevant category.

By giving all relevant contact information (physical address, telephone numbers, fax numbers, and email address), you are also creating a sense of security for your end users. They can contact you in the way that makes them feel the most comfortable.

4.- Web page layout and design should be consistent throughout the site.

Just as in any document formatted on a word processor or as in any brochure, newsletter, or newspaper formatted in a desktop publishing program, all graphic images and elements, typefaces, headings, and footers should remain consistent throughout your web site. Consistency and coherence in any document, whether it is a report or a set of web pages, project a professional image.

For example, if you use a drop shadow as a special effect in your bullet points, you should use drop shadows in all of your bullets. Link-colours should be consistent throughout your web pages. Typefaces and background colours, too, should remain the same throughout your site.

Colour-coded web pages, in particular, need this consistency. Typefaces, alignment in the main text and the headings, background effects, and the special effects on graphics should remain the same. Only the colours should change.

5.- Quick to download.

Studies have indicated that visitors will quickly lose interest in your web site if the majority of a page does not download within 15 seconds. (Artists' pages should have a warning at the top of their pages.) Even web sites that are marketed to high-end users need to consider download times. If your business does not have good brand name recognition, it is best to keep your download time as short as possible.

A good application of this rule is adding animation to your site. Sure, animation looks "cool" and does initially catch your eye, but animation graphics tend to be large files. Test the download time of your pages first. If the download time of your page is relatively short and the addition of animation does not unreasonably increase the download time of your page, then and ONLY then should animation be a consideration.

Finally, before you consider the personal preferences of your web page design, you should consider all of the above rules FIRST and adapt your personal preferences accordingly. The attitude "I don't like how it looks" should always be secondary to your web site's function. Which is more important: creative expression/corporate image or running a successful business?

What is a TLD (Top Level Domain) & how to use them?

    Por Liliana E. González

    @LilianaElena

The International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, ICANN is an international nonprofit organization created in September 1998. Among other functions, ICANN is responsible for the system of administration of domain names or DNS (Domain Name System).

Top Level Domain is the last part of a domain name, the most common, more used and most recommended is the .com.

There are generic TLDs: consist of 3 or more letters and abbreviated gTLDs; Country codes consist of 2 letters representing the country, territory or geographical location to which they belong and are abbreviated as ccTLDs (Country code TLDs).

The gTLDs are subdivided into general (unsponsored) and sponsored:

Unsponsored gTLD are available for registration by any person or business:

.com - (commercial) This is the most common for domain names. It is also widely used in personal Web sites.

.net - Originally representing Internet Service Providers (ISP). It currently has widespread use.

.org - Usually represents non-profit organizations or groups

    .biz - For business (business)

    .info - primarily informational sites

.pro - Used for specific professions, usually intended for licensed professions. Examples include: Attorneys, Doctors etc.

A sponsored TLD is a specialized top-level domain that has a sponsor representing a specific community served by the domain. The communities involved are based on ethnic, geographical, professional, technical or other theme concepts proposed by private agencies or organizations that establish and enforce rules restricting the eligibility of registrants to use the TLD. For example, the .aero TLD is sponsored by SITA, which limits registrations to members of the air-transport industry. These sponsored gTLDs are:

.aero, .asia, .cat, .coop, .jobs, .mobi, .museum, .tel and .travel

ccTLDs are Country Code Top Level Domains. They are active sometimes even if the country it was created to represent no longer exists. The rules and policies for the registration of these extensions varies significantly from one another. There are already 250 different. Some of them are:

.de (Germany) is based on the first two letters of the German-language country = Deutschland. This is the second ccTLD with more demand (China is number one) and the third at a general level (the first stills .Com). To register this domain, the administrative contact must be resident in Germany and the website should refer or be related to that country. According to DENIC.de there were 12,830,677 registered .de domains on June 3rd 2009.

.cn (China) This is the first more desirable ccTLD and the second in general, after. com. This is sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and, according to data from China Internet Network Information Center there were 13,594,604 .cn recorded on June 3rd 2009.

Vanity ccTLDs are TLDs which are used for various purposes outside their home countries, because of their letters. They are exploding their marketing potential, for example:

.tv - (Tuvalu) Polynesian island nation located in the Pacific Ocean, midway between Hawaii and Australia. It comprises four reef islands and five true atolls. Their 5 meters elevation above sea level place Tuvalu at the risk of disappear sunk at sea. Their .Tv TLD is used for related television or enterteinment industry sites.

.fm - (Federated States of Micronesia) The Federated States of Micronesia consists of 607 islands across the archipelago of the Caroline Islands east of the Philippines. Extensions .fm is used for FM radio stations and internet radio stations.

.me - (Montenegro) European country located on the Balkan Peninsula, western Serbia, on the east coast of the Adriatic Sea. Extensions .me are used for personal sites. In fact their marketing campaign is ".me is about you".

3 Easy Steps For An Effective E-marketing Plan

In this day and age, internet marketing is emerging as one of the most viable and cost-effective marketing methodologies especially for small businesses. Here are three easy steps that you can follow for an effective e-marketing plan.

The process of using digital technology in order to sell goods or service is called e-marketing. With the growth of technology and the internet, it has become imperative for businesses to use e-marketing strategies to supplement their traditional marketing methods so as to generate more product sales and to reach a wider market.

E-businesses, though, would generally focus their attention on e-marketing alone. E-marketing uses the same basic concepts as that of traditional marketing. The purpose is to devise strategies in order to deliver your message across to your target market.

The difference with e-marketing lies in the options available to you when marketing and advertising your products, services or business. Of course, you could always use the traditional method, but it is wiser to take advantage of the marketing opportunities that the internet gives.

E-marketing produces tremendous results in terms of increased market share, high margins of profit and continued customer patronage. It is also ideal for small and medium-sized businesses for e-marketing is more affordable and less effort-intensive.

Nevertheless, in order to launch an effective e-marketing campaign, you would first have to create an e-marketing plan. The focus of an e-marketing plan is to ensure high response from prospective customers. Below is a summary of steps for creating an effective e-marketing plan.

Step 1: Determine your target market

Before anything else, you must identify your market. Rank and profile them accordingly and assign resources to each target group. Know their expectations, requirements, needs and wants so that you would have an idea how to go about with your sales pitch. This would also help you in determining your costs and ascertaining your expected benefits. It is also important that you study the market environment and your competitors’ marketing strategies, and give due notice to all possible opportunities.

Step 2: Set e-marketing plan objectives and e-marketing methods

You must immediately set your objectives for your marketing campaign. Are you aiming to increase product or business awareness? Are you aiming for higher website traffic? Would you like to rank high in search engine results? Your objectives may include establishing and raising your e-presence, disseminating business information and sales leads generation.

After determining your objectives, you must establish the e-marketing methods you would use to achieve your objectives. It is not advisable for you to use just one method. It is always wiser to use multiple e-marketing methods.

Step 3: Set a budget and determine your strategies

You should identify the strategies and techniques that you would use to launch your e-marketing campaign. Determine the tactics you would use for implementing your marketing methods. You should formulate strategies that are geared towards capturing your target market’s attention. You must position and differentiate your strategies and establish your priorities.

It is also very important that you carefully budget your expenses, regardless of what objective you have set and what methods you would like to employ. Make sure that your costs will not spiral out of your control. Use the cost/benefit analysis in order to determine an acceptable budget. The benefits should more than compensate for your marketing costs.

Why Your Business Needs a Website

    By Liliana E. González

    @LilianaElena

Just about any type of business would benefit from having a website. Consider it another tool that you can use to increase sales, even if you don't sell anything directly from your site. Here are some reasons why having a presence on the Internet makes good business sense

    1. Your Website is Open 247

Even though your business may only be operating during the regular business hours you have chosen, your website doesn't lock the door and go home at the end of the day. Instead, it is always available to provide your customers (existing and potential) with information about you and your products or services.

    2. Having a Website Gives You Credibility

Many people will go online to investigate a business before deciding whether to buy. When you put up a well-designed website that provides information your customers find relevant and helpful, it goes a long way toward establishing you and your business as one that consumers can rely on.

There is a lot of competition for the Buying Public's dollars and people feel more comfortable dealing with someone they feel that they know, even if it's from the tone of your websites. If you can successfully develop a relationship with your customers, they will turn from one-time buyers to regular customers, and that is key to having a successful business that continues to grow with time.

    3. Your Site is Another Way to Generate Income for Your Business

Once you go online, you are not restricted to selling products and services from a physical location. You now have the freedom to sell directly from your website. When it comes to building a successful business, you want to have as many sources of income as possible and selling directly to customers online is a growing trend.

Many people find it quicker and easier to buy products or order services from a website than to drive to a store somewhere to get the items they need. Ordering online saves them time and (possibly) money and they are free to do so from anywhere that has an Internet connection. With time being at a premium, you will want to demonstrate how dealing with you can benefit your customers, and saving time and or money is a great hook to make consumers want to buy from you.

    4. A Website Lets You Go After International Customers

Once you go online, you are no longer limited to local customers only. You are free to attract business from anyone who has an Internet connection, which means you have the potential to increase sales substantially.

Keep in mind that when you decide to offer products and services to a worldwide market, you are also going up against more competition. Visit high-ranking sites from companies that offer similar products or services to yours to get an idea of what they are doing right. Armed with this information, you can put your best (online) foot forward and grow your business.

9 tips to Choose a Domain Name For Your Business

    By Liliana E. González

    @LilianaElena

The domain name for your business is your online identity. You should be very careful about choosing a domain name that is memorable, scores quite well with search engine listings, has a trust factor attached to it, and commands a brand value. Here are some tips in choosing a well-meaning domain name that captures the essence of your brand image or business:

    1. Be patient: You should not choose a domain name in minutes merely just to get it done and over with. A hasty decision may cost you a lot. It is better to invest time in research and arrive at the right kind of domain name.

2.- Use keywords: It is important to have an adequately researched keyword incorporated within the brand name. Use the most searched-for term in search engine queries, within your domain name. Prior to launching your online business, you should do some research through website tools to find out which keywords register the most number of traffic during a month. For example, if you want to make a website based on advising people, you will find that the keyword help is normally typed in the search engine query window a lot more frequently than the word aid. If your domain name includes targeted keywords, than you will get higher rankings in the search engines like Google and Bing.

    3. Keep it short: The shorter your domain name, the more memorable it is. A domain name is quite important for your business correspondences and emails. A long one can cause problems in communication, especially if the domain name seems complex.

    4. Easy to remember: If your domain name is easy to remember, people can access it directly by typing the name in the address bar. If your domain name has an every-day lingo, the better it is!

    5. Use hyphens: More often than not, you may find that a simple two-word domain name is already taken. The alternative in this case, is to put a hyphen (-) to your targeted keyword and then add the other word. SEO experts are of the belief that hyphenating two or more words makes a long domain name more search engine friendly.

    6. Dot.com first: If you intend to have a website for commercial or business reasons, then by all means go for a website which ends in extension .com. You could register additional extentions for different business strategies like .org, .us, .net, etc. However, by all means try stick to .com for better mass appeal.

    7. Register similar domain names: If you believe that in the future you are going to have a huge amount of people visiting your website, then you should consider registering similar domain names that direct to your main URL (e.g. www.datinginformation.com and www.datinginfo.com). There are cyber-squatters who register domain names in the hope that they will be selling them for a profit to someone who really needs that domain name. Before they do this, you should register the domain names if you think that such a possibility can occur.
    8. Use your company name: If your company name overwhelms the basic product name, then by all means go for the company name as your domain name. For example, people normally use the term Xerox rather than photocopy and if you are Xerox, then you should go for Xerox as a domain name because of the sheer popularity of the brand name.

9.- Use your own name: New trends say it's important to use the name to be developed as a brand.

In sort, to be on the right side of balancing your business well, you should register several domain names to represent your business, your brand/name, your product and some keywords or key phrases.

3 Simple Steps to Your Own Website

    By Liliana Elena Gonzalez

    @LilianaElena

Do you have your OWN website? Having professional presence on the Web increases the opportunities for getting new customers and reduces marketing costs.

Having a website is like having a house or an office. Depending on your activities, you will decide the type of it. Let me tell you it’s easier than you think – all you need is directions that you follow and you will soon be online.

But how much it will cost? For $10 - $20/month you can have a working website (Imagine: YourOwnWebsite.com), available to anyone in the world with internet access. That’s a trip to your favorite fast food joint. (Yes, you can afford it!)

There are 3 basic components required to building a personal, custom website.

    - A domain name
    - A hosting account
    - Content written in a notepad, word or similar

To fully understand these terms, think on the web as the mortar and brick world:

You live in a home (or have an office) that is built on a certain piece of land (that you rent or buy). That piece of land has a specific address.

Your website (a collection of individual web pages) sits on a hosting account that you rent. That hosting account is found at a specific address – called a domain name.

    Your Home/office = Your Website
Your Street Address = Your domain name
Your plot of land = Your hosting account
Your physical house/office = Your web content

Therefore the 3 step process to any website:

    STEP 1: Choose your address
STEP 2: Build the house or office you want
STEP 3: Rent some space on a computer connected to the internet

    Let’s explain each step:

STEP 1: Choose your address (a domain name)
With the internet you can choose what you want your address to be (your domain name). What are you selling? What would make a cool name? Understand that after over 25 years of domain registration – a lot of good names have been taken. So get creative, and be unique but understandable. An easy place to start with is your full name for a family/personal site or your product name for a business site. Make a list of about 10 possibilities that you like in this format www.yourdesiredname.com Move to the next step.

STEP 2: Build the house or office you want

There is one thing that is really important and that ONLY you can do! That is come up with the content and the idea. Think about what you have to offer and what problem it solves for your visitors and prepare your content so as to answer that problem. E.g. If you are a real estate broker/agent , you can answer your clients questions through your blog and direct traffic to your listings page. Write simply, write short, write clearly. As time goes on, remember to keep your site fresh. Keep the content updated and relevant to your ideal visitors.

Now, before jumping on the next step, you need to decide what kind of site do you need. There are several options in templates and wizards to help you build exactly what you want (no special skills required):

Wordpress blog: easy to install application
WebsiteTonight: Professionally designed Web page templates.
SmartSpace: easy-to-build Web site, blog, photo album and social page
Quick Shopping Cart: create and publish a stand-alone Internet store
Quick Blogcast: your own blog, podcast—or both—anytime

STEP 3: Rent some space on a computer connected to the internet (A hosting account)
Go to Dominiador store (feel free to look into others, but don’t waste your time searching for the cheapest, remember: you pay for what you get), and type your first domain name choice. You will be informed if that name is available or not. Keep trying out your names in order of your preference until you find on that is available.

While in the process, the program will give you the chance to select your hosting account. Select your hosting to match your activity (see choices at STEP 2), when you finish the process, the hosting company will instruct you on how to access you account.

The goal of this article was to give you easy steps of how to get a website for yourself. Naturally you can learn more about each step (stay tunned for more posts in this blog), but now you can start the journey. Create your list of domain names, decide what type of site you want and build your content and purchase a hosting account (including the domain name you want).

A journey of a million miles starts with one step – so go to step 1 and start. (Don’t worry – this is not a long journey – but it’s exciting!).
